Stress

It's natural to experience stress from time to time, and when you experience stress every now and again, your body knows how to manage it. After all, the human stress response was designed to work for you. The problem is that it was designed to work in short bursts so you can power through life threatening experiences. Once the threat is gone, your body goes back to its normal state and you know you can call on this response again when you need it to protect you.

Unfortunately, in our modern society, stress has become a way of life. Stress takes many different forms and can come at you from all directions. You may have stress from finances, relationships, work, school, children, responsibilities, illness the list goes on. These stresses send the signal to your body that you are in danger. While these are not imminent dangers, your body does not know this. Survival mode kicks in, and stays activated.

Your body was not designed to live in this fight-or-flight survival mode all the time. When you are overwhelmed and living with constant stress, your stress response is no longer working for you. Your body is unable to keep up with the constant effects of the stress response.

You may find yourself feeling sick, suffering from headaches, stomach aches, and sleepless nights. Instead of feeling rested when you wake up, you feel more fatigued. You may start to feel a general sense of dread, anxiety, or sadness. You may start to experience panic attacks. You may eat too much or not enough. You may turn to alcohol, cigarettes or other drugs only to find that this causes you more stress.
